NLI Position Statements
The NLI is committed to ensuring that future and current nursing students in Idaho have regional access to high quality, affordable undergraduate, graduate and post- graduate nursing degrees. NLI believes that is best achieved by securing adequate state funding for higher education, by cultivating opportunities for nurses to seek advanced degrees and become nurse educators, by supporting a positive dialogue between service and education to achieve alignment between the goals of education and those of service, and by promoting access to scholarship support for nursing students at all levels.
NLI supports the on-going collection and reporting of nursing workforce supply and demand data that will be used as the foundation for the allocation of resources designed to ensure that there are enough nurses in Idaho to meet the healthcare needs of our citizens.
Public Health and Safety
NLI supports policy initiatives which place a priority on preventive services and strategies and which promote the environmental, physical and mental health of our citizens. Understanding that public safety contributes to health and NLI is supportive of policies that promote and enforce the use of safe practices by individuals and communities.
Nursing Regulation and Practice
NLI recognizes the authority of the Idaho Board of Nursing to regulate the practice of nursing in Idaho. NLI is supportive of Idaho Board of Nursing(IBN) policies which ensure that nurses practice within the scope of their educational preparation and that they are held accountable to a high standard of professional conduct and performance. NLI will work with the IBN to achieve these goals.
